Doors, docks & loading equipment

Overhead and rolling doors, security grilles, dock equipment, and the fire doors that carry an annual inspection requirement.

Easy to ignore until a rolling door jams at 5pm with a delivery half unloaded, or a fire inspector asks for fire door inspection records you did not know existed. Patio roll-up doors have also become a common bar and restaurant feature, which puts a door company in the middle of your build-out.

What to ask before you hire

Take this into the call. No vendor gets to edit this list.

  1. Do you do NFPA 80 fire door inspection, testing, and repair? Rated fire doors and rolling fire shutters carry an annual inspection requirement that is separate from anything the health department checks — and most operators do not know it applies to them.
  2. Will you leave documentation of that inspection that I can show a fire inspector or my insurer?
  3. What is your emergency response time, and do you cover weekends? A stuck dock door stops receiving entirely.
  4. Do you stock parts for my door make and model, or does every repair become a special order?
  5. For a new patio or service opening: does the door need engineering drawings for the building department, and do you provide them?
  6. Do you service rolling security grilles and counter shutters as well as overhead doors?
  7. Is there a preventive maintenance agreement, and does it move me up the queue on emergency calls?
