Used & refurbished equipment
Dealers who sell used, refurbished, and liquidated commercial kitchen equipment — and who will buy yours.
Used equipment is how most independents afford a build-out. It is also how they inherit somebody else's problem. The difference is entirely in what you ask before the truck leaves.
What to ask before you buy
Take this into the call. No vendor gets to edit this list.
- What is the model and full serial number? Call the manufacturer with both before you buy — most encode a build date, and the manufacturer can confirm the real age, whether any warranty remains, and whether it transfers to you. Sellers are not always sure, and some are vague on purpose.
- Is it refurbished or as-is? Refurbished should mean tested and serviced, and it should carry a warranty — ask how long, and what it covers on this specific unit, since terms often vary by equipment type and refrigeration is the one worth pressing on.
- Can I see it run under load, not just power on? A unit that lights up is not a unit that holds temperature.
- Is it single-phase or three-phase, and what voltage? Three-phase equipment in a single-phase building is one of the most expensive mistakes on this list, and the price tag will not warn you.
- For gas: is it configured for natural gas or LP, and is a conversion kit available for my supply?
- Will it physically fit — through the door, round the corner, and into the space? Measure the doorway, not just the equipment.
- For refrigeration: how old is the compressor, what refrigerant does it use, and is that refrigerant still available and affordable? Ask whether the unit has been sitting unpowered, because seals and compressors do not like it.
- Why is it being sold? Upgrading is a different story from a closure or an insurance salvage, and it tells you how the equipment was likely treated.
- Is it NSF-listed? Equipment without a listing can fail plan review even if it works perfectly.
- Are parts still available, or is the model discontinued? Ask who services this brand locally before you buy, not after it fails.
- If this is going under an existing hood, does it change the appliance lineup? Suppression nozzles are placed and sized per appliance, so swapping a fryer for a griddle can mean the system has to be re-engineered — a cost that dwarfs the equipment.
- Does the price include delivery, placement, and hookup — or is it curbside on a pallet?
- What is the return policy if it fails in the first week?
- Do you buy equipment too? Trade-in or consignment can offset a purchase when you are replacing a line.
- If financing is offered, what is the total cost over the term and can I settle early? Financing used equipment can outlast the equipment.

PCI Auction Group — Ohio
Online auctions of new and used restaurant, bar and commercial equipment, with an Ohio division and a Painesville warehouse. Also handles seller-side liquidation, free appraisals and asset repossession.
Services: Online equipment auctions · Liquidation · Appraisals · Asset repossession
Serves: Cuyahoga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Summit, Portage, Geauga, Stark, Ashtabula counties
Auction rather than storefront, so the buying rhythm is different: lots close on a schedule and removal windows are short. Worth registering for alerts before you need anything, because the equipment you want appears when a restaurant closes, not when you start looking. The same division handles the other side — appraisal and liquidation if you are the one closing.

TEC Akron — The Equipment Connection
Akron dealer stocking new bar and restaurant furniture, running online liquidation auctions, locating hard-to-find foodservice equipment, and appraising equipment and furniture.
Services: Bar and restaurant furniture · Liquidation auctions · Equipment sourcing · Appraisals
Serves: Summit, Portage, Medina, Cuyahoga, Stark counties
Stocks bar furniture locally and delivers, which is unusual — most furniture is a freight order with a lead time. Also does the hard-to-find search, which is the service worth knowing about when a discontinued part or an odd-size piece is holding up an opening. Two contacts published: Bill 330-618-7260 and Jean 330-618-6755.

What drives the cost of a commercial kitchen build-out
Nobody can quote your kitchen from a square footage. What they can tell you is which decisions move the number by tens of thousands — and what the health district requires your drawings to show before anyone is allowed to build.
